The Hugo de Groot statue was erected in memory of the lawyer legal scholar and leader Hugo de Groot. The bronze statue was cast in a factory in Breda. The statue stands in the middle of the Markt in Delft and faces the stadhuis (City Hall) and has its back to the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). The statue is part of the protected cityscape of Delft and is a national monument.
